2It's wierd how you try to remember what you call something and you honestly can't remember what you say out of context. I usually say Coke or Soda i believe. I don't really remember ever calling it Pop. Other than making fun of Harold and Kumar 2. This is a very interesting topic and should be thought of more. This controversy could really help clearing up certain things about language diffusion. Funny, you'd probably wouldn't expect a nineth grader to know this. Oh well. But, to be completely blunt and honest, it doesn't really matter what you call it. If it's pop soda or coke, or even other. It just depends where your from, what you grew up around, and/or what you around most. If you move from one city to a city in a completely new place, you might find yourself picking up words and/or accents. The indigious people tend to start the slangs and then people that move there either modify them or pick them up also.

1Ok, this is the FINAL word on this subject "Soda" is club soda, add a sweetener and it becomes a "Soft Drink", "Tonic" contains quinine, "Soda-Pop" is what northern hicks use and shorten to "Pop" which is someone's father and therefore clearly unacceptable. Colas are cola-flavored SOFT DRINKS and are in the civilized world refered to as COKE since Coca-Cola is the first, largest and most enjoyable drink ever produced. In our capitalist culture the originator gets the credit. So go Xerox some paper and put up some Sheetrock while you read this on your PC. Also, as the chart clearly indicates, the most educated and civilized parts of our country (the East and West Coasts) clearly refer to it as Coke. I grew up in south east Florida (the only civilized part of Florida as well as a bigger mixing pot than NY city or the whole of California) and we ask for Coke. What kind of coke? Hmm..I'll have a Sprite, or maybe a Pepsi (if you prefer that ilk, but you still ask for COKE first). The ONLY exception is if you want a Root Beer or and Orange Soda, in which case you ask by brand name "I would like a Sunkist." or "One A&W root beer please." This is cleary the educated way of ordering a SOFT DRINK and it will get you laid too.
1cold drink/soft drink
1I use Coke for all carbonated beverages I'm irritated that so many transplants came to South Florida and try to convince those of us who were already here that saying"Coke" is backward. Coke was and is the ultimate cold drink! "Pop" makes me laugh "soda pop" sounds like some old fart is talking and the other terms like "tonic" or "cold beverage"--why bother?

1weezer rocks!!!!
1Soft drink. Since I moved to the DC area, I've taken to sometimes saying "soda," because that seems to communicate the idea more clearly. I think my tongue would snap off if I tried to say "pop."
1Most of what i drink is coke, but if i want something else i'll just use a specific brand name, coke, sprite, dr. pepper, whatever (never pepsi!), but if i'm offering someone a soda i usually just say "you want a drink?" but sometimes i'll just say "you want a coke or something?", but if i was in the soda section of the grocery store or something i'd just say "wow, look at all that soda" or something. basically, here you can say soda, coke, soft drink, or even cola and people would understand you. But if you said pop you would look like a total weirdo who is old and/or a loser.
1Cold or soft drink
1i order a coke-cola when that is what i want a pepsiif i so desire one of those a 7-up if that is what my mouth is calling for and for orange soda and root-beer i order them as orange soda and root-beer.
1Depends, usually the type of product. IE Coke for coke products, and Pepsi for Pepsi products, Orange For orange soda a,d The brand of root beer for root beer

1Pop - As in what kind of pop are you drinking? What kind of Coke are you drinking (Root Beer?) must be some southern hick way of showing off - LOL (laughing out loud - spelled out for the verbally challenged "Coke" drinkers). By the way... most of the world makes copies. But then again, most of the world seems to have figured out how to hold a vote.

1Pops are for children and are in the freezer, if you want a drink you need to ask for a SODA. p.s. to Florida, it's ok to vote it is only a SODA survey you can't screw it up. Dr.Pezzo's class rules!!

1I call it by its name (coke, pepsi, dr. pepper, etc.)
1Toxic waste
1I grew up with "soda" or "coke", switched to "pop" after moving to Canada
1To the person that said that the east and west coasts refer to it as "coke," what map were you looking at? It clearly states that almost all of the east coast and California say "soda," as does Southeast Florida, which you also claim says "coke," which it doesn't. And it's soda.
1Bowl of jism. Yum.
1I grew up calling it Coke (in Florida), but after I moved to Minnesota I couldn't bring myself to say Pop -- so now I say Soda.

1Referring to the people in Canada who talk about the "graveyard" and the "swampwater", here in the U.S. of U.S.'s, we label the type of drink where you add everything a"SUICIDE". At least that's how it is in New Mexico, I have never heard anyone call by what you said until you said it, so I appluad you and hope you give another weird name for it.

1i call pop/soda/coke by its specific name because where i live their are so many choices for carbanoted drinks so you have to specify if you want pepsi, coke, root beer, orange fizz or what ever but if we would say something more genral we would use any term because whatever you say people would understand it REALLY does not mater.
